India is set to provide Unesco with a list of recognized higher education institutions in support of banishing fake institutions around the world. Unesco launched a portal that aids students in not selecting fake institutions and provides them with accurate information about the various quality insurance systems in higher education around the world.

Already 38 countries have provided Unesco with their lists of genuine universities and education institutions. These countries include Australia, India, the UK and the US.
The Unesco portal on higher education aims to provide students and other interested parties with access to authoritative and up-to-date information on the higher education institutions and quality assurance mechanism in participating countries. “On invitation from Unesco, India has decided to join the portal. The preparatory work in this regard is being carried out,” says C.R. Valsala Hariharan, deputy secretary in the human resource development ministry.

This move will not only single out the fake institutions and help make higher education courses genuine, but it will also discourage the process of students buying fake certificates from these institutes.
