India has become the hub of offshoring and many MNCs across the world are looking to send their operations here. The reason? Low cost of operations and an educated workforce. To keep up with the demand of professionals, we need to stay ahead in the supply of qualified manpower. Indian higher education providers still a have long way to go to come at par with their international counterparts.

Challenges that India faces in the higher education sector is the lack of accessibility and the absence of uniform higher education standards across the country.

To study the efficacy of the existing higher education system, the government has decided to do a comprehensive study/ data collection exercise. the Ministry of Human Resource Development has initiated this unique exercise to compile details on existing government owned /aided and private higher education providers. Initially the study will be performed on selected universities, but later its scope of study will be expanded to include all types of educational institutes providing or claiming to provide higher education.

The idea is to create a database of the current status of higher education institutes in terms of their affiliations, curriculum and student enrollment processes. From there, a mechanism will be built to ensure that higher education imparted by such colleges/ universities is in accordance to the quality standards set nationally and internationally.
