If the reports are to be believed, India is looking to raise the number of students enrolled in higher education courses to 40 million by the year 2020. This is a huge number indeed, and to achieve this, India is looking to expand its education infrastructure at an amazing rate. In 2006, the United Kingdom and India began a strategic partnership – UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) – in the education segment. The alliance is in its second phase now and looks to put more institutes on the map to increase the current intake capacity and reach the 40 million mark in the not-to-distant future.

UK universities are in the process of establishing campuses in India. Middlesex University has opened a campus in Noida. This is an opportunity for students in India who have limited financial means. The fees here are highly subsidized compared to an international student tuition fee on-campus in the UK. The programs being taught here are engineering and information sciences.

Another such university is the Leeds Metropolitan University India campus located in Bhopal. Students here are taught keeping in mind real world demands. The curriculum includes a lot of projects that give students hands-on experience.

Indian students can now get an international education and degrees while staying in their home country.
