Entrance exams are over and now is the time to apply for admission into your desired university. Counseling is on across the country to fill seats. Besides the location and stream of study, another thing that students have to consider is the fee. There has been a hike in fees for all the professional courses in most of the engineering and medical colleges.

Many states in the country have made changes in their fee and seat distribution structure. In Karnataka, private, professional and state government colleges have agreed to increase the fees for engineering, medical, and dental courses. The government quota fee will now be Rs. 25,000 – 35,000 while the fee for management seats ranges from Rs. 1.25 lakh – 3.25 lakh for the 2011-12 academic session.

The Maharashtra state government has also proposed a hike in the MBBS courses being provided at government run or aided colleges. Now pursuing an MBBS degree in Maharashtra would mean that you pay Rs. 45,000 per year. Similarly, a dental degree would now cost Rs. 33,000.

The Tamil Nadu Govt. has decided to keep last year’s fee for self-financing professional colleges. IITs and NITs are not going to increase fees this academic session, but there could be an increase in the next session. Hence, fee hikes have been non-uniformly distributed across the country.
