18
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a new stitching course as a way to reach out to the underprivileged sections of our society. This course was launched after a pact was signed between IGNOU and the Aditya Birla Group.
An official from IGNOU reckons that at least 200 students will be enrolled each year in study centers set up by the Madura Fashion and Lifestyle Institute which is a part of Aditya Birla’s assets.
The official further added that this programme is to benefit the underprivileged by running short-term courses to empower them and make full-time employment a dream within their reach. This course will include a basic and an advanced course in garment stitching and a third course in garment stitching and quality control.
Vice chancellor VN Rajasekharan Pillai adds that these course can lead to a diploma or certificate programme.
