As you walk around Siragu you will notice children engaging in learning. Sitting in groups around tables—outside and inside the classroom—children are reciting poems. In another class children recite multiplication tables. Yet in another classroom kids take down notes. Started in 2003, Siragu Montessori School has come a long way. With a strength of 380 students in classes from LKG to VII, the school has helped eight students get certification from the Indian General Certificate for Secondary Education (IGSE) to help them write their board exams.

What is truly special about Siragu is that it was begun for street children and children rescued from where they were working. Some of the children were sent out to beg. They were in circumstances they could not escape and in the absence of opportunity to come out of the situation they would never have escaped. Siragu was started with the objective of providing quality education to first-generation learners.

Some of the children are day scholars while many stay in the hostels. They learn karate, music, and art and practice what they learn at school to keep themselves busy.

What is wonderful is the joy of learning that is evident in what the children have to say about their routine in the school. Some are so inspired as to want to be a teacher or a doctor or software engineer. Some can barely wait to get to the school to meet their friends. Many are proud to be first-generation learners. Many of them have also been participating in competitions and winning accolades for their school. The extra-curricular activities range from spelling Bee to karate to music,

Siragu also teaches soft skills and tries to help their students get employment.
