Indian education is much respected around the world and is considered to be one of the best as well. This may be attributed to the traditional educational system in place. So far, the higher education is Indian has followed the time-honored format of fixed curriculum. But breaking the mould, some universities across the country are adopting the conventional and flexible format of personalized curriculum. The students are being encouraged to customize and personalize their curriculum based on their aptitude and interest.

One of the largest universities in India, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), is also launching this new scheme. The student will be able to choose papers/subjects of their choice as additional paper. And furthermore, this paper-wise registration scheme will not require the students to have previous knowledge of the relevant subject. It should also be noted that there will no age bar for this scheme.

Pankaj Khare, Registrar at the Student Registration Division at IGNOU says – “The idea is to allow students to pick and choose the courses they want to study. In time, we would like to give students the option to take the exam online as and when they want to.”

By giving the choice to the students, the universities are trying to ensure that the higher education experience empowers the students to fashion a career and a future based on their own interest.
