27
A 21-year-old BTech computer science student in his fourth year at NIT-Warangal has been offered an annual pay package of Rs 45 lakhs by Facebook to join their technical wing next March.
For NIT-Warangal, this is the highest salary ever offered to any of its students yet. The next best package was for Rs. 15 lakhs. Other students have received offers ranging from Rs. 5 lakhs to Rs. 12 lakhs per annum. Eight companies had come for the first round of recruitment and most were IT companies. About 30 students have been recruited so far.
Most IT companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Oracle, and Google have overcome the recession and will now be able to recruit more freshers than they did last year. Several companies had wanted to get the first interview slot since usually the bright students are picked up in the first or second round of interviews.
Last year the average pay package offered was between 6 and 7 lakhs, an average that is expected to be higher this year. NIT has around 790 BTech and 500 MTech students.
