Teaching

Teaching as a profession ennobles an individual like no other career as education hones the mental capabilities of a person and plays a vital role in the human advancement towards an organized society. Teachers not only groom their students to excel in a particular field, but also sow the seeds of responsibility and character in the young minds so that they can develop as better citizens and ambassadors of the country. Confidence, wisdom, patience, intelligence, friendliness, communication skills, and passion for the subject are the chief qualities of a good teacher. Teaching boasts of several areas of specialization. Teaching jobs require a higher degree of vocational dedication and commitment to people than do most other careers. In return for that dedication, many educators derive a great deal of satisfaction from their teaching jobs and from helping others.

Courses and Eligibility:

Courses in the field of teaching may vary according to different levels of teaching. In order to teach at the nursery level, one has to study a Nursery Teacher Training (NTT) program after having successfully completed the 10+2 examination from any recognized board. For the middle level, one has to pursue a Teachers Training Certificate (TTC) program, which requires passing 12th standard. A candidate should pursue a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree if he/she wants to be a teacher in high school. As far as colleges and universities are concerned, to become a lecturer, one has to obtain a postgraduate or doctoral degree and qualify the National Eligibility Test (NET), which is conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Career Prospects:

After acquiring the desired skills and qualifications, teachers can join any of the educational institutes in both public and private sectors. Depending upon the educational qualification and skills, a teacher can work as a specialist in the field of adult literacy or in remedial and self-enrichment education; a professor in a college or university; a teacher of kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school; a teacher in a preschool; a tuition teacher; a teacher of performing arts; a teacher of defense techniques and martial arts; and more. Teachers can opt to create their own online teaching jobs matching their educational qualifications.

Remuneration:

Primary- or junior-level teachers can get around Rs. 5,000–Rs. 9,000 per month. High school or senior school teachers can draw a salary ranging between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 20,000 per month.
