Commerce
Commerce is one of the most important facets of business that includes all activities, functions, and institutions involved in transferring goods from producers to consumers. It is one of the three fundamental academic streams dealing with the nature and fluctuations in the market, basics of economics, fiscal policies, industrial policies, and other related areas. With globalization changing the nature of economic activity across the world, a career in commerce could be the best pick for an aspirant.
Course Details:
- At the undergraduate level, one can pursue a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree, a three-year full-time program, provided the candidate has passed the 10+2 level of examination in commerce stream from any recognized state/national Board.
- To enroll into a postgraduate program, one should hold a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree from any statutory university/institute.
- The course includes a wide range of interdisciplinary branches such as Accountancy, Business Administration, E-Commerce, Finance, Economics, and Marketing.
Career Prospects:
- A student with a background in commerce can gain employment in any private or government organization as a specialist in any of the streams of commerce (e.g., economics, accountancy); work as a management executive, accounts executive, or junior accountant; or pursue a career in auditing or banking.
- The savings and investment patterns in the Indian economy have undergone a sea change that is reflected in bank deposits, mutual funds, portfolio management, insurance schemes, private equity/venture capital, and stock markets. This only means more professionals with a commerce background will be in demand. With India becoming the fastest growing market for investments of various kind, a career in commerce and finance appears to be a perfectly good choice.
Remuneration:
Remuneration in the field of commerce largely depends upon the standard of the employing organization and the area of specialization. Private and government organizations have their own policies regarding salary of professionals working in the field of commerce.
