Right from giving life to several classical comics such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Tom and Jerry, and many more, the animation and multimedia industry has come a long way entertaining millions around the globe. The 3D animation technology, the latest buzz in this field, is being blended in every animated movie, revolutionizing the movie-watching experience for both film buffs and audiences alike. It is an art that merges text, images, graphics, animation, audio, and video to create virtual magic.
Courses and Eligibility:
Aspirants seeking a diploma or a bachelor’s degree in animation should have passed 12th standard from any recognized board with a minimum of 45% marks. Similarly, for postgraduate programs in animation training, one must have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline, preferably fine arts. One should ideally possess a basic knowledge about handling computers. In the animation industry, aspirants can further specialize as a 3D or 2D modeler, special FX creator, animator, character designer, games designer, and interaction designer.
Career Prospects:
Animation and multimedia are among the most sought after jobs. This field, being new to the Indian sector, has a lot of potential to grow and attract talent, which needs to be properly groomed and exploited according to international standards. There are many companies such as Walt Disney, Imax, and Sony who are ready to outsource creation of their cartoon characters and are ready to invest heavily in this sector in India. Ascertaining such developments, Alpha and Omega, India’s first 3D stereoscopic animation film, was released in 2,600 cinema halls across the United States and Europe in September 2010, marking a new trend in the country’s capabilities in the realm of IT-enabled services.
Remuneration:
An excellent salary is the most attractive part of this profession. As a junior animator or trainee one could get around Rs.10,000–15,000 per month. And a well-experienced animator who has a good portfolio of excellent animation work could easily get Rs. 50,000–60,000 per month.
