Career Guide for Architectural Engineering Studies
Architectural Engineering deals with the art and science of designing/constructing buildings. The onus is on an Architectural Engineer to trot out plans on construction, design and layouts of a building and structures, keeping in mind the cost, comfort, safety and aesthetic aspects. Therefore an Architect must be flexible in his approach as well as bear the specificities of purpose in mind. One can rise to a successful position in the field through talent and hard work. Success in this competitive profession is measured by the size of responsibility entrusted to an individual, an invitation to partnership in a firm or, ideally, a well-established private practice. to wide-spread urbanization, this field has become one of the most career oriented field for students in recent times.
Courses & Eligibility:
The courses offered in Architectural Engineering are:
- B. Arch. (Architecture).
- B.Tech. Architectural Engineering.
- Diploma in Architectural Assistantship.
- Diploma in Architecture (Dip. Arch).
- M. Arch (Architecture)
The eligibility criterion for admission in undergraduate courses is 10+2 in Science stream with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as core subjects. English & computer science skills can be an additional advantage. Duration of Bachelor’s degree programs in Architectural engineering is 4 or 5 years depending upon the course.
Career Prospects:
A fresher can work in central and state departments like housing and urban development corporation, municipalities, city development authorities, state housing boards etc. Within a few years of experience in an organization, one can set up their own business or can also opt for a teaching career after registering himself with the Council of Architecture (COA) . A experienced architect can also apply to stellar Construction Companies like DLF, Sahara, Eros Group et al. Aspiring architects can also take up the job of teaching in various architecture colleges like IIT Roorkee, IIT Kharagpur, School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi.
Remuneration:
Remuneration in this field, solely depends on the type and size of the organization one is employed. A fresher can expect a starting salary of Rs 10000 to Rs 15000 per month. An automobile engineer can take home a sum of Rs. 25000 to Rs. 35000 within a few years of experience.
