Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering is a frontier branch of engineering that involves the application of laws and principles of Physics to analyze, design, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. A mechanical engineer understands the key concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, and energy. They may work in varied fields that use mechanical systems including automobiles, aircraft, heating and cooling systems, manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, medical devices, and more. They also research, develop, design, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanical devices. Mechanical Engineering has strong implications in almost all fields of technology; therefore, job opportunities in this field are plenty and are expected to increase in the coming years.
Courses and Eligibility:
The eligibility criterion for admissions to a bachelor’s programme is a 10+2 pass in the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects. The 2-year MTech course can be pursued after successfully completing an undergraduate course. Students must go through entrance exams such as GATE for admissions to BTech and MTech courses. One can also opt for a diploma course after completing class 10.
Career Prospects :
Some of the places where Mechanical Engineering graduates can find employment are the automobile industry, steel plants, space research organizations, oil exploration and refining agencies, and the technical wing of the armed forces. Government departments such as the PWD, CPWD, and the post and telegraph department, as well as those dealing with aeronautics, chemicals, agriculture, and power plants also recruit mechanical engineers; they hold titles such as junior engineer, assistant engineer, assistant executive engineer, executive engineer, and superintendent engineer. Professionals may also be absorbed as administrators or managers.
Remuneration:
A fresh graduate can earn a salary of Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000 per month excluding other allowances. In the government sector, the salary range of diploma holders is Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 15,000 per month. Lecturers in colleges can earn a starting salary of Rs. 12,000–Rs. 13,000 per month. Senior engineers can earn anywhere between Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 50,000. Those at management levels can earn up to Rs. 60,000 or more.
