Space Technology
Space Technology is the application of science and engineering to the exploration and utilization of outer space. Some of the various sub-branches of space science are astronomy, astrophysics, cosmology, stellar science, and planetary science. With the development of indigenous space technology since independence, India has developed an impressive array of technological achievements in this field. India has matured through building its own technology for developing its national infrastructure, especially in the areas of communication, education, broadcasting, meteorology, disaster management, and resource monitoring. Therefore, career prospects in this field are very promising for an aspiring graduate.
Courses and Eligibility:
The eligibility criterion for admissions to a bachelor’s programme is a 10+2 pass in the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects. The 2-year MTech course can be pursued after successfully completing an undergraduate course. Students must go through entrance exams such as GATE for admissions to BTech and MTech courses. One can also pursue a PhD course after completing MTech.
Career Prospects :
Opportunities are infinite for an aerospace engineer. Some of the major organizations where graduates can find employment are the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), and National Aeronautical Laboratories (NAL). Other companies such as Airbus, General Electric, Infotech, Capgemini, and Saffron Aerospace also recruit qualified professionals in this field.
Remuneration:
While freshers receive good remuneration for their services, experienced professionals in this field receive hefty pay packages.
