It focuses on the design and control of all aspects of fiber, textile and apparel processes, products, and machinery. The course curriculum also draws knowledge from other engineering disciplines including mechanical, electrical, and industrial and chemical engineering. The industry has three major areas of work: research and development, manufacturing, and merchandising. As the Indian textile industry is growing rapidly, the job prospects in this sector are huge for qualified engineers.
Courses and Eligibility:
The eligibility criterion for admissions to a bachelor’s programme is a 10+2 pass in the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects. The 2-year MTech course can be pursued after successfully completing an undergraduate course. Students must go through entrance exams such as GATE for admissions to BTech and MTech courses. One can also pursue a PhD course after completing MTech. The topics covered under the BTech programmes are yarn manufacturing, fabric manufacturing, wet processing, apparel manufacturing, and textile management.
