Career Guide for Physiotherapy Studies

Physiotherapy is a branch of science that seeks to alleviate movement dysfunction, to promote optimal health and functions of the human body. treat patients who are suffering from physical restraints and disabilities as a result of illness, injury, aging, or other factors. They will work with patients to identify what is causing problems for them and create treatment and rehabilitation plans to help the patient gain back their strength and mobility. They often work with patients who have suffered from a stroke or sports injury. Their goal with patients is to promote and improve their health and well being by working with the musculoskeletal, nervous, respiratory and cardiovascular systems to rehabilitate patients back to health and teach them how to exercise safely and prevent future injuries.

Courses & eligibility:

The various courses offered under physiotherapy are:

  • B.Sc. Physiotherapy. .
  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT).
  • Diploma in Physiotherapy (D.P.T.)..
  • M.P.T. in Sports Physiotherapy.
  • Master of Physiotherapy (MPT)..
  • Master of Physiotherapy in Hand conditions.
  • Master of Physiotherapy in Neurology.
  • Master of Physiotherapy in Orthopaedics.
  • Masters Programme In Sports Physiotheraphy (M.S.P.T).
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Physiotherapy and Nutrition.

To practice physiotherapy, a physiotherapist will have to obtain a bachelor’s degree in the same. The basic eligibility for bachelor’s courses in physiotherapy is 10+2 in the science stream with physics, chemistry and biology as core subjects. For the 2-year master’s programme one has to complete a bachelor’s degree from any recognized board or university. After completing the master’s degree, one can opt for a Ph.D programme. Admissions in these aforementioned courses are made through an entrance test conducted by the respective boards or universities.

Career Prospects:

Jobs in physiotherapy are continually on the rise as more people are seeking physical therapy for more and more injuries. Professionals could be employed in the rehabilitation departments of hospitals, under various departments of the central and state governments, municipal corporations like physically handicapped centers, medical rehabilitation centers, health institutions and defense medical establishments. Chave started to offer physiotherapy as part of their health insurance, so this will result in a demand for more doctors as well. The increase in the elderly population is also increasing the demand for physiotherapists. time, physiotherapists will often open their own private practice. Some physiotherapy offices work in coordination with massage therapists and holistic medicine practitioners, so opening a practice that also offers these treatments is a rising opportunity for many doctors.

Remuneration:

The starting pay scale of physiotherapists in government hospitals varies between Rs. 5000 to 7000 pm. Private hospitals offer a starting salary around Rs 10,000 – Rs 15,000 per month. The earnings of established private practitioners can be almost Rs 20,000 to 40,000 per month depending upon their professional reputation.
