Career Guide for Electronics Studies

Electronics is the branch of science and technology that deals with the study of flow and control of electrons (electricity) and the study of their behavior and effects in vacuums, gases, and semiconductors, and with devices using such electrons. All applications of electronics involve the transmission of either information or power. Electronic science is completely theory based while the same engineering course involves practical applications like designing and constructing electronic circuits etc. Most of the gadgets and electrical equipments that we use in our day-to-day life have strong relevance to electronics.

Courses & Eligibility:

In India, all major universities offer courses in Electronic Science both at graduation and post-graduation level. The minimum eligibility for B.Sc Electronics is + 2 Science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Maths and for M.Sc in Electronics, one should have completed his/her graduation with Physics or Electronics as the main subject.

Career prospects:

A graduate in electronics can find a job in Central Government, State Governments like All India Radio, Indian Telephone Industries, MTNL, National Physical Laboratories, AIR, Civil Aviation Department; Post and Telegraph Department; Co-ordination Department, National Physical Laboratory, Bharat Electronics Limited, Development Centers in various States etc. Students can also avail the option of further studies in this field and engage in research or teaching in various colleges/universities/ research labs across the country and abroad. Freshers can also join as junior executives in electronic chip making industry, computer hardware industry, and consumer electronics industry or even become entrepreneurs.

Remuneration:

The average salary of electronics graduates varies between Rs 15, 000 – Rs 25, 000. Candidates possessing essential qualifications, skills and experience get a decent pay package in addition to other perks and benefits.
