MS in Information Technology & Management
Program Description
This 37-credit program is intended to prepare students having undergraduate background in computer science, engineering, information technology, or related fields with the knowledge, skills, and perspective for successful careers in the field of Information Technology in both the US and abroad.
The Master of Science in Information Technology and Management (ITM) provides basic coverage of the fundamental areas of information technology and offers depth in three areas: Application Development, Network Management, and User Interfaces. The program is distinguished from other ITM programs in a number of ways. These include:

MS in International Commerce & Policy
Program Description
The International Commerce & Policy program (ICP) provides training in the political, legal, cultural and social aspects of global commerce, business and economics. This 37-credit program, distinct from the MBA degree, is designed especially for international and U.S. students wanting to develop proficiency and understanding in areas related to international relations, politics, business, law and policy. The program, usually completed in 15-18 months if the student begins coursework in the fall, consists of a core of 25 credits. From there students may pursue one of several options, including a Commerce track, a Policy track, a non-specialized track, and/or a Thesis track. Students who are non-native English speakers may add English for Business to their core requirements. Up to 3 elective credits may be taken from language courses in the student’s non-native tongue.
Especially for International Students
The program is responsive to the needs and interests of international students, and approximately half of the students enrolled in the ICP program are from abroad (current and former international students come from: Belize, Canada, China, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Ivory Coast, Japan, Nigeria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Sierra Leone, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, The United Arab Emirates). MS in International Economics & Finance
The Master of Science in International Economics and Finance (IEF) provides students with theoretical and analytical training in the economic, financial, cultural, and managerial aspects of global business and commerce. This 37-credit program is designed for international and US students seeking to develop skills to effectively recommend strategies and policies to upper management operating in a complex global business environment. The program, which can be completed in 18 months of full-time coursework, requires study in the areas of finance, statistics, and global economics issues. Graduates of this degree program will be well-positioned to work in the profit, non-profit, and government sectors.
Professional nurses find themselves working wherever there are people. The specializations available to nurses are limitless-from traditional bedside nursing in an acute care hospital to occupational health nursing at Bloomingdale’s. Nurses take care of patients, teach in colleges and universities, and run health care facilities. At Concordia, nursing students get to experience it all-from community hospitals like Lawrence Hospital Center in Bronxville to care facilities like Westchester Medical Center; Visiting Nurse Services of Westchester to mental health services at St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Economic analysts are employed to perform the following duties for employers:
- Establish or recommend to management economic strategies, objectives, and policies for the organization;
- Contribute to the decision making process and accomplishment of tactical plans of the institution by counseling and advising on financial and business matters;
- Perform economic and statistical analysis on proposed projects or for policy recommendation;
- Evaluate operations on a systematic and regular basis.
Master of Business Administration
What You Get:
Whether you are a professional juggling a career with schooling or a full-time student, our program is designed to fit your needs. You can complete the Valpo MBA in one year through our 38-credit program designed for students with an undergrad business background.
For students with no prior business background you can still have a Master of Business Administration degree in two years (or spread the program over as many as five years to fit your lifestyle) with our 52-credit program.
Foundation Courses – 500 level (14 credits)
These graduate-level courses build the foundation for the program and are designed for students without corresponding undergraduate work or for those whose business coursework is not current.
Core Courses – 600 level (26 credits)
These courses form the common base of the MBA and are taken by everyone in the program. The core includes advanced courses in business disciplines in three broad areas:
- values-based leadership
- analytical decision making
- strategic leadership
Enhancement Courses – 700 level (12 credits)
These courses allow you to customize your degree to fit your interests and career goals. A broad selection of courses are taught on a rotating basis including “hot topics” addressing current business trends.
Joint Juris Doctor-MBA This joint degree program, offered in conjunction with the Valparaiso University School of Law, allows students to complete both degrees in four years.
Master of Science in Digital Media
Program Description
The Master of Science in Digital Media is a 37 credit program that prepares U.S. and international students having an undergraduate background in communications for successful careers in the field of digital media (video, audio, desktop publishing, and web technologies). The program has as its goals the development of professionals who will be able to:
- Explain and apply appropriate information technologies and employ methodologies to help individuals or organizations achieve their goals and objectives through use of digital media;
- Manage digital media resources of individuals or organizations;
- Anticipate the changing direction of digital media;
- Evaluate and communicate the likely utility of new technologies;
- Live and work as a contributing, well-rounded member of society through ethical application of digital media resources.
In accomplishing these goals the program will:
- Familiarize students with the technology/skills required to be sucessful in the field of digital media;
- Provide hands-on experience that culminates in a practical project;
- Enable students to integrate management skills and ethical perspectives into their study;
- Prepare students for employment in the field of Digital Media.
Admission:
Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate School. In addition, applicants should have at least an undergraduate minor in Communication or one of its components. Students are strongly encouraged to begin the program in the summer.
Master of Science in Sports Administration
Program Description
The Master of Science in Sports Administration (MSSA) is a 39-credit program for individuals interested in developing competence and pursuing careers in the management of sports personnel and facilities. Graduates of this program may assume supervisory and administrative positions in a variety of settings, including public recreation systems, voluntary agencies, facility and event management, community-based athletic programs, college athletic administration, and professional sports organizations. The program is jointly administered through the Department of Physical Education and the Graduate School.
The program emphasizes competency in seven core areas:
- Leadership, management, and organization of recreation and sport Research methods
- Legal aspects of sports
- Marketing of programs and facilities
- Ethics in sports management
- Sports in a social context
- Financial aspects of sport
In addition, students in the program are encouraged to select coursework in the areas of Financial Accounting and Financial Management.
In this interdisciplinary program, students take graduate coursework through the Department of Physical Education and other programs in the Graduate School, including Education, Psychology, Communication, and Liberal Studies.
