The origins of Great Circle Carriers are neither maritime nor fossil fuel based but can be traced straight to trading roots. One significant constant in the company’s development across its various incarnations has been a family run management philosophy with a long term foresight. The origins of Great Circle Carriers can be traced way back to 1952 where the late GL Mirchandani formed India Book House Group of Companies. Ghanshyam L Mirchandani had displayed considerable talent, great business acumen and unusual speculative courage. After successfully making his capital in the Philippines, he settled in Mumbai in the year 1947, and started work in the distribution of foreign books and magazines where he held a monopoly for many years. After rapidly gaining such a remarkable understanding of the trade that he was able to establish own printing mill and invited his son Mr. Deepak G Mirchandani to join the business in the year of 19--. Their success in the distribution business allowed them to expand into publishing activities, organized retail, real estate investing and Business Process Outsourcing, all of which was started by Deepak Mirchandani. After completion of studies in US, Shri Rishi D Mirchandani, elder son of Mrs. & Mr. Deepak G Mirchandani, has diversified the family business to integrated logistics and shipping service provider by the name of Great Circle Logistics Pvt Ltd. In December 2007, he further developed Great Circle Carriers Pvt. Ltd., to own and operate ships to expand and start the journey of aiming to become one of the world’s foremost integrated providers of ocean transport. Great Circle Carriers will begin its maiden voyage under the entrepreneurial leadership of Shri Rishi Mirchandani and will steer ahead confidently, testing new waters and exploring new avenues from providing bulk shipping in its initial years, to diversifying into offshore oil field services, ship yards etc. Much against the industry norms, the company has to swim against the tide and in the process, will turn the tides in its favour, thereby laying a path for others to follow.
