Introduction:
Situated in Western and Central Europe, Germany is a federal parliamentary republic of sixteen states. Berlin is the capital of Germany and the country shares a border with several European countries, including Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. The major rivers of Germany’s are the Danube, the Elbe, the Oder, the Weser, and the Rhine.
Education in Germany:
At present around 246,000 international students are enrolled in German institutes of higher education. After the United States and Great Britain, Germany is the third most attractive country worldwide for international students. German is typically the language of instruction for all lectures, classes and seminars, but nowadays there is an increasing growth in the number of course with English as the medium of instruction. German universities also offer professional course programmes. One of the defining factors of higher education in Germany is the low tuition fees as compared to other western countries, in some cases, courses in Germany have no tuition fees.
Culture of Germany:
German culture represents the traditional heritage of Germany in the field of literature, music, arts, cinematography, cuisines and sports. With immense contributions towards art and culture, Germany has a distinct German culture. This culture consists of various traces of medieval art and architecture that are readily apparent in the various cathedrals, monasteries, and castles that dot the country. German culture is also enriched with religious influences. The culture and tradition of Germany is developed with influences from Catholic, Protestant, Jewish and other minor religions.
Climate of Germany:
Most of Germany has a temperate seasonal climate in which humid westerly winds are predominant. Rainfall occurs year-round, but it particularly rains during the summer. The east has a more continental climate, with very cold winters, very warm summers and frequent long dry periods. Central and southern Germany are transition regions, which vary from moderately oceanic to continental climate. In addition to the maritime and continental climates that predominate over most of the country, the Alpine regions in the extreme south and, to a lesser degree, some areas of the Central German Uplands have a mountain climate, characterized by lower temperatures and greater precipitation.
Advantages of Germany:
Germans travel abroad more often than the people of other European countries do. No nation benefits more from a Europe without borders than Germany. Germany has a very high standard of living and a comprehensive social security system. It has been home to many influential inventors and scientists, and is known for its cultural and political history. Germany is emerging as one of the preferred choices for people wishing to pursue their higher studies abroad. Due to the growing demand and huge in-flow of international students, the universities have comfortably switched to English as their medium of instruction. One of the major advantages of studying in Germany is that the tuition fee is very low as compared to comparable colleges and universities in the United States and United Kingdom.
Visa Procedures to Germany:
EU citizens and citizens from some other countries (Honduras, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and the United States) do not need a visa to enter Germany. Everybody else must apply for a visa for study purposes via the German diplomatic representation in their home country.
Documentation required to submit with the Application for German Student Visa:
- Students must possess a passport valid for the entire period of their proposed stay in Germany
- Students must present their notification of admission to a German higher education institution or preparatory course
- Students must prove that he/she have sufficient financial means at their disposal. Further information is available from the German diplomatic representation in student’s home country
