Introduction:

Situated in Southeast Asia, Malaysia is a federal constitutional monarchy consisting of thirteen states and three federal territories. It shares borders with Thailand, Indonesia and Brunei. These land borders are defined in large part by geological features such as the Perlis River, Golok River and the Pagalayan Canal. The two parts of Malaysia, separated from each other by the South China Sea, share a similar landscape. They both feature coastal plains as well as hills and mountains.

Education in Malaysia:

The Federal Government of Malaysia is committed to providing quality education to all. Over the past decade, the Malaysian higher education sector has grown tremendously and Malaysia is fast becoming a center of educational excellence in the region. The wide usage of English in Malaysia makes it an ideal choice for English speaking students wishing to pursue their higher education there.

Culture of Malaysia:

Malaysia has a multi racial and multicultural population, with three major ethnic grouping Malays, Chinese and Indians. Apart from these cultures, some of the other cultures that have heavily influenced Malaysia are Persian, Arabic, and British. The many different ethnicities that currently exist in Malaysia have their own unique and distinctive cultural identities, with some crossover. Performing arts and shadow puppet shows are popular, and often show Indian influences. Malaysian architecture is influenced by the various individual cultures present in Malaysia.

This has lead to a spectacular structural transformation of Malaysia’s economy over the last 40 years. High priority is given to education and training as part of Malaysia’s five-year development plans for national development. Apart from the government, the private sector has also set up educational institutions to supplement the government’s efforts to generate a larger pool of professionals and semi-professionals.

Visa Procedures to Malaysia:

The Malaysian Government does not allow student Visa stamping outside Malaysia, therefore the student shall have to travel to Malaysia on a tourist Visa. On arrival at the University, the International student Card shall be issued to the student and the passport taken for stamping of the student visa by the University authorities.

Here are six easy steps for obtaining a student pass

  • You submit an application form to study, together with relevant documents to the intended educational institution that has approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Malaysia Immigration Department) to recruit international students
  • Your application to study should be accepted by the educational institution that will then help you to apply for a student pass at the Malaysian Immigration Department in Malaysia, prior to your entry
  • Upon acceptance, a Letter of Approval for a student pass will be released by the Malaysian Immigration Department to the educational institution that has offered you a place to study. The educational institution will then send the approval letter to you to reach you in your own country
  • Before leaving for Malaysia, you must inform the educational institution at Malaysia of your port of entry (airport), flight number, arrival date and time
  • Upon arrival at the airport in Malaysia, the educational institution’s representative will receive you at the immigration checkpoint at the Malaysian airport. Your visa will be issued to you at the entry point in the form of an endorsement on your passport. A Special Pass will be issued at the entry point to refer you to State Immigration Department for issuance of a Student Pass
  • Within 2 weeks of your arrival, the educational institution will submit your passport to the Immigration Department to affix the Student Pass sticker
