They also can work as trustees of various trusts and law reporters in media industries. Lawyers have ample career options in numerous Law schools and colleges as a teacher/professor. Non-profit organisations like NGOs need the service of Lawyers. International agencies like UNO, ILO, and ICJ also employ Lawyers of good reputation and track records.

A Lawyer will represent clients in court, mediations, business transactions and other important legal proceedings or arrangements where the law will be discussed. Lawyers act as both advocates and advisors on behalf of their clients. As advocates, they represent either the plaintiff or the defendant and advance their client’s case through oral argument or written documents such as motions and briefs. As advisors, lawyers counsel clients on how the facts of their particular case apply to the law. . In general, the lawyer is the individual who represents another in all issues where legal representation is advised and deemed necessary.

One can either pursue a three-year law course (LLB) after graduation in any discipline or a five-year course after twelfth standard examinations, leading to a BA LLB (Hons). The BA LLB programme usually covers practical training including court attendance, hands on training at legal aid centres and research projects. Programmes in law (LLM) are of 2 years duration & eligibility is LLB degree. During the first year or year and a half of law school, students usually study core courses, such as constitutional law, contracts, property law, torts, civil procedure, and legal writing. In the remaining time, they may elect specialized courses in fields such as tax, labor, or corporate law.

Competition for admission to most law schools is intense. Prospective lawyers should develop proficiency in writing and speaking, reading, researching, analyzing, and logical thinking in-order to succeed both in law school and in the profession. It is almost easy to step into the profession but one has to really strive hard to reach solid ground. Every Lawyer who does not have a legal background is bound to suffer a prolonged gestation period than the one who has a legal background. But on the other side an individual with a legal background may have to do a lot of arm twisting to prove his caliber.
