Centers of Excellence
Overview
LIBA has many Centers of Excellence. As an institution of professional study and training, LIBA fulfils the felt need to benchmark its quality and standards to match those of the best business schools in the nation and the world. The creation of Centers of Excellence in thrust areas of management is a consequent strategy to make them “peaks of excellence” on the plateau of management research and education.
A Centre of Excellence is understood to be an institutionalization of the best practices in the academic pursuit of knowledge in a given area; professional development through multi-skill acquisition; integration of knowledge and professionalism resulting in effective deployment of both to serve the changing needs of industry; and those in the promotion of ethical and social values that govern all. The best practices converge towards the focal thrust to promote academic and professional competence with compassion for ‘the poor’ and the marginalized so that our managers may be bridge builders between business and society.
Loyola Center for Behavioral Science
The Rationale
Though human nature is the same everywhere, human behavior with all its different hues and complexities needs to be studied in its proper cultural context. Diagnosing the etiology of behavioral patterns and assessing their influences in individuals and groups will be important for successful interactions with others.
Human behavior in organizations and suitable ‘Indian’ solutions to behavioral and life issues affecting individuals and organizations have not been adequately studied in the Indian context. There is also a need for business schools to adequately equip their students to deal with holistic health and life issues so that dysfunctional behaviors at work or in personal life are prevented to a large extent. Hence, it is the endeavor of this Center to enable people to understand behavior as well as to equip them with necessary knowledge and skills to help modify behavior.
The Mission
The Centre for Behavioral science shall enhance the overall health, well-being, and life of individuals and organizational members, through appropriate interventions including training, counseling, treatment and support, and to add to the body of knowledge in the fields of Psychology, Sociology, and Behavioral Sciences.
It also helps to enhance HR/OB education through appropriate courses/interventions/research/projects.
The Objectives
- To enhance the overall quality of life of individuals/organizational members
- To help individuals/organizations cope with psychological/behavioral/attitudinal problems
- To enhance the skills of HR professionals
- To conduct research in areas of interest to organizations, or wherever a lacuna is perceived
- To provide opportunities to HR students at LIBA so that they gain greater depth of knowledge and skills needed to be effective HR professionals
With its unlimited scope as a resource center providing powerful learning and behavioral solutions for individuals and organizations, the Center for Behavioral Sciences will probably be the first of its kind in a Business School. Through regular feedback and continuous self-assessment, the Centre would be constantly endeavoring to provide services of the highest quality.

Loyola Centre for Retail Management
The Rationale
Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA), as a Jesuit Institution, passionately endeavors to train professionally competent managers imbued with a sense of justice, integrity, honesty and ethical values. The aim is the creation of a cadre of socially responsible business leaders committed to the upliftment of the poor and marginalized. The Jesuit charisma impels the students passing through the portals of LIBA, to build bridges between business and society, competence and compassion, and profit making and ethical conduct. One of our attempts at encouraging and promoting this ideal among the business world was the institution of the Mother Teresa Award for Corporate Citizen. Yet another milestone was the establishment of the Centre for Business Ethics and Corporate Governance instituted to mark the silver jubilee year of LIBA. In continuum, LIBA has established the Centre for Supply Chain Management. The recent addition to this effort towards marginal excellence is Central for Retail Management.
