Three New Constituent Colleges of Bharathidasan University on Three Different Locations

There were new beginnings at three different locations – Inamkulathur in Tiruchi’s Srirangam constituency, Thiruthuraipoondi in Thiruvarur district, and Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district. At each of these places a new arts and science constituent college of Bharathidasan University started functioning from Monday, the 8th of August.
The Vice Chancellor, K. Meena, inaugurated the first-day classes at the Inamkulathur college where 148 students from rural parts have been enrolled for four programs: B.A. English Literature, B.Sc. Mathematics, B.Sc. Computer Science, and B.Com. B.A. English Literature (58 ) attracted the largest number of candidates followed by B.Sc. Mathematics (33), B.Com (32), and Computer Science (25). University sources said that admissions will continue until the intake level of 60 for each program is reached,.
One third of the cost of establishing these constituent colleges is to be borne by the Union Government through the University Grants Commission. The university is expected to coordinate with the district collectors to identify land for permanent campuses.
Inaugurating these colleges through video conferencing last month, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa expressed hope that the one at Inamkulathur will brighten the future for a large number of rural students in her Srirangam Assembly segment. Currently the the college is functioning temporarily from a building on the premises of the Government Higher Secondary School.
The college was one of her poll promises, she has also sanctioned a Horticulture College for Women, a National Law School, and an Indian Institute of Information Technology for Srirangam constituency.
