IELTS Scholarships 2011 for Indian Students

06, Sep 2011

Eight students from different parts of India were awarded the British Council Scholarships on August 30 for studying abroad.  The scholarships were for Rs. 3 lakh each and were based on the candidate’s performance in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test. These eight students were selected from around 700 applicants based on their writing skills. The essays were on themes such as brain drain and improving literacy rates. The scholarship money is deposited directly into the university’s account. Mike Nithavrianakis, British Deputy High Commissioner to South India, presented the awards to the students.

Namrata Sarmah, one of the winners, will be going to Manchester Business School for an MBA in Global Business Analysis. For Rajagopal K. Subramaniam, the sole winner from Tamil Nadu, this is a dream come true. He has been working in the IT industry for 8 years and will be traveling to Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand.
The British Council IELTS scholarship was launched in 2010 for Indian students planning to study at universities overseas. The scholarships are in line with the British Council’s mission to promote the global sharing of knowledge and ideas.
