Innovation-based 4-Year Degree Course at Delhi University

06, Sep 2011

Delhi University has planned to take education to new and exciting levels, going beyond the confines of classrooms and textbooks to innovation and hands-on learning. The proposed degree program in mathematics and information and communication technology (ICT) will be interdisciplinary. The course will train students to specialize in diverse fields and encourage them to take up innovations in varied disciplines such as research, engineering, signal processing, and computer science through industry-based projects. The course will give 60% weightage to projects and innovations and 40% to classroom learning.

Hands-on learning will be encouraged by installing various prototypes on the campus. For example, there is a proposal to put up a Nano car on the campus so that students can understand its engineering and work on new ideas.

The curriculum has been developed and the modalities of admission and faculty are being worked out. DU plans to place the new program before the executive council and academic council for approval so that it can be opened for admissions later this year.

CBSE has already taken up the mantle of changing the face of education at the school level in India with its project-based curriculum and now with DU’s new proposal, education in India is slowly but surely poised to take off to interesting and exciting destinations.
