Based on the findings of its internal research, Yahoo!, the leading digital media company, chose an alternative educative route to help users discover the power of the internet and started its ‘Learn with Yahoo’ program.
Yahoo! India plans to take its ‘Learn with Yahoo’ program to schools in the near future. Right now they are running in over 2,500 cyber cafes across India, 185 of which are in Uttar Pradesh.
According to a Yahoo! spokesperson, the program has received an encouraging response from people in the first phase and that in the second phase it would run it in schools as well. The company is making preliminary plans to work out details such as the eligibility of schools. Priority would, however, be given to schools having computer education.
“Our internal research indicated that new users are keen to learn more about the internet, especially when it comes to surfing the internet from their mobile. The research also indicated that 55 percent of these new internet users begin their online journey at cyber cafes,” says senior director Nitin Mathur.
