The Indian Phytopathological Society, New Delhi, at its 64th annual meeting held at Hyderabad, gave the Dr. B. B. Mundkur Memorial Lecture Award to Professor V. Prakasam of  the Department of Plant Pathology at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. He received this award for his contribution to the areas of education, research, and training in the field of plant pathology. Mr. Prakasam received the award from Ravi Khaterpal, president-elect of the Indian Phytopathological Society.
Mr. Prakasam is at present pursuing research on identifying new edible mushroom species.
