Wednesday the 11th of January 2012 was a much awaited day for many MBA aspirants. It was the day the results were out for the CAT exam held a few months back.Around 1.85 lakh candidates took the test over a 20-day testing window across 36 cities from mid-October. The Indian Institutes of Management published the results on their website.
Nine MBA aspirants have secured 100 percentile in the Common Admission Test.

According to severalof the top scorers, taking mock tests that coaching institutes offer prepared them to do their best and thus secure high percentiles in the exam. Although the test itself keeps evolving and changing, sometimes unpredictably, the coaching industry is quick to catch up.

Candidates can send in their CAT scores to any of the 13 IIMs, the country’s premier institutes for management studies, besides applying to several others, including the management studies departments in the National Institutes of Technology and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). This yearthe IITs took the decision to accept CAT scores instead of conducting a separate Joint Management Entrance Test. The academic affairs secretary at IIT Madras said that this year many of the students in the institute were among the top scorers in the test, two of whom— Prabhu Dev and Saipramod Inguva— scored 99.99 percentiles.

Professor Janakiraman Moorthy of IIM Calcutta, convener of CAT 2011, said that the IIMs will start calling candidates for the next stage of the admission process from today. “Some of the older IIMs may put out the list from evening. Within a week all the IIMs would have sent out mails to prospective candidates,” he said.

Since many of the new IIMs, including those in Tiruchirapalli, Udaipur, and Raipur, have increased their intake from 70 to 120, chances of a candidate getting into any of these IIMs is much greater than before — nearly twice.
