MCI proposes a single common national entrance examination for MBBS Admission

The regulatory body for medical education, Medical Council of India (MCI), has proposed one entrance examination for all medical colleges in the country in compliance to the Supreme Court rulings. This will cover 290 medical colleges, both private and government-run.

AICTE nod for 20 more Tech Institutes

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved 20 more technical institutes in the state on Thursday making it a total of 48 new institutes this year. The first batch of approvals came on June 10. Of the new batch of approvals in Maharashtra, seven are engineeringcolleges and nine are management institutes. So, totally there are 22 new B-schools and 26 new engineering colleges for students this year. The rest are polytechnics and architecture institutes.

IIM offers management course after Class 12

Now you can go for the coveted IIM tag right after Class 12. The Indian Institute of Management — Indore is starting its five-year integrated postgraduate programme (PGP) in management from this year. This is the only IIM so far to venture into this kind of programme. Candidate should have completed 17 years of age and not be more than 19 years old as on June 30, 2011, as per the eligibility criteria.

Counselling from July 8 for govt quota in self-financing engineering college seats

The general counselling for government quota seats in self-financing engineering colleges in the state will commence on July 8 and go on for 35 days at Anna University here.
Speaking to reporters after releasing random numbers for engineering counselling, higher education minister P.Palaniappan said Anna University had received 1,48,353 applications from students to take part in counselling and the fee waiver for first generation students scheme launched by the previous DMK government would continue this academic year also.
