Study Abroad Entrance Exam for ACT Studies
The American College Test (ACT) is an admissions examination that is widely accepted by all 4-year colleges and universities in the U.S. Most colleges require students to take a standardized exam as part of the admissions process; either the ACT or the SAT. While there are many curriculum-based similarities, the ACT test is more straightforward than the SAT, and you can take the ACT several times and choose which score to submit.
Test Details:
The ACT test includes the following sections: English, Reading, Math and Science, as well as, an optional 30 minute essay. The 215 multiple-choice questions takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete, including a short break (or just over four hours if you are taking the ACT Plus Writing). Some colleges require the Writing Test; others do not. You should decide whether or not to take the Writing Test based on the requirements of the colleges you are applying to or considering.
How to register?
If you want to take up the test at a center in a country outside the United States, you must register on the ACT official site- www.actstudent.org by creating a free student web account. After providing the information requested to create the account, click the “Register to Test” link and follow the on-screen instructions to complete your registration. Payment must be made by valid American Express, DISCOVER, MasterCard, or VISA card.
Quintessential tips for cracking the ACT:
- Try and understand the test and the scoring process of ACT before you start preparing for the exam.
- Answer every question. Your scores on the multiple-choice tests are based on the number of questions you answer correctly. There is no penalty for guessing.
- If you are taking the ACT Plus Writing, make sure you explain your point of view in a clear and logical way.
- Use a proper guide book that includes test information, complete practice tests with scoring keys, and a writing prompt with sample essays.
- Test yourself with the different ACT test preparation programs available on the internet.
Note:
The weight placed on ACT scores varies from school to school. Other important factors that schools consider in their admissions decisions are your high school GPA, academic transcript, letters of recommendation, interviews and personal essays. For more specific information on the importance of ACT scores, contact the admission office of the schools to which you are applying.
