Study Abroad Entrance Exam for PCAT Studies

The PCAT, or Pharmacy College Admission Test, is a test that is administered and developed by Harcourt Assessment, Inc. With the help of this examination the scientific knowledge of the candidate along with his/her abilities to solve mathematical problems are put into test. The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) endorses the PCAT as the official admission test for entrance to pharmacy college. Beginning in July 2011, all candidates can take up the new computer-based test (CBT) version of the PCAT.

Key Facts:

  • The PCAT consists of 240 multiple-choice items and two writing topics. Candidates are given four hours to complete the test (plus administrative time for instructions and time for a short rest break about halfway through the test).
  • The test includes the following sections: Verbal, Arithmetic, Chemistry, Biology, Comprehension and Writing.
  • Every year, this exam is held in 3 different months- January, April and October.
  • A solid GPA with a great PCAT score (ex: >70% percentile) will usually get you accepted at most school of pharmacies in the U.S. A lackluster GPA along with a great PCAT score (ex: >80% percentile) could offset the GPA aspect of your application.
  • PCAT scores are kept on file for 5 years from your testing date.
  • The test scores are valid for two years, i.e., most universities accept scores up to two years old.

  • Get well equipped in chemistry as well as calculus.
  • Use a proper guide book
  • You must study for each section of PCAT individually.
  • Having a clearly defined introduction, thesis, supporting body paragraphs and a conclusion will allow you to do well on the writing sections.
  • Candidates must take the practice test available on the internet, in order to check their level of preparation..
