In answer to a felt need for education, the Laguna Northwestern institute was conceived by the Entila family of San Antonio, San Pedro, Laguna, and formally inaugurated on May 28, 1978. Classes started on June 13, 1978 with 192 students, on the first year and second year levels. The following school years heralded the opening of more classes, third year and fourth year, then Kindergarten, and grades one to four. Tertiary level education was opened in S.Y. 1981-82 with Liberal arts, then Secretarial courses, and Commerce, in addition to elementary and secondary offerings. Vocational – Technical education courses were opened in S.Y. 1982-83, followed by electronics in S.Y. 1986-87. Government recognition was granted by the Department of education, Culture and Sports in the following years: 1981 - Elementary and Secondary Program (Day), 1982 - Kindergarten Program, 1984 - Two Year Junior Secretarial, Five months Typewriting , Stenography, Office procedures, One-year General Clerical, Liberal Arts, One-year Practical Electricity, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. 1985 - One-year Auto Mechanics, and Secondary Program (Night). To keep abreast with the demands of industry, considering that by virtue of it's location, Laguna Northwestern College is at the gateway of CALABARZON, several areas of specialization were added to the approved curriculum. With the focus on health related courses, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the two- year Midwifery course was opened in 1991. The Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy were offered in S.Y. 1993-94. For students who will assist in the delivery of health Services, a Nursing Aide Program and a two-year Therapy Assistance course were offered. With the establishment of resort facilities in the Laguna, Batangas, and Cavite provinces, and the strengthening of tourism programs, an Associate Program in Hotel and Restaurant Management was opened. The BS Program in HRM was recognized on S.Y. 1997-98. The trend of development is in the Southern Luzon area. Residential housing complexes abound in San Pedro, Binan, Sta.Rosa, and towns in Laguna. Thus, to cater to the needs of the residents of these subdivisions Laguna Northwestern College embarked on a system style of expansion. In S.Y. 1996-97, LNC-Pacita Complex was established and LNC- Corinthian Center in Sta.Rosa, soon after. S.Y. 1996-1997, LNC- La Annunciata Montessori Center in Sta.Mesa, Manila was established. In 1997-98, a satellite school was opened in Siniloan, Laguna. Graduate education was given emphasis in answer to the insistent demands of teachers, government offices, and employees, business practitioners, and others interested in professional advancement. The center for Graduate Studies was established in June 1997. The offered were Master of Arts in Education, Major in Educational Management, Early Childhood Education, and Master in Business Administration. Currently the Masters Programs in public Administration are in process with the Commission of Higher Education. The Inexorable march to development has begun, and Laguna Northwestern College will leave in the hearts and minds of Laguna residents, whether original families, or transferredpopulation, the legacy of quality education, the formation of SPIRITFILLED leadership, and enhancement of the educational potential of the young citizens.
